The 2nd Annual Team Demolition Association Awards Banquet put the finishing touches on the 2011 season with a night of celebration and recognition for the best-of-the-best in the Tournament of Destruction. Reckoning was added to the Metal of Champions trophy, Mean Green Machine's #13 Ryan Decker scored Most Valuable Driver and team owner John Millette joins the late Steven Scarbro as the only recipients of the Jan Gabriel Legend's Award. Reckoning reigns supreme! New Team Demolition Derby "Tournament of Destruction" Champions!
Reckoning strived to make 2011 all about having fun. They will enjoy a full off-season of fun now as the new The ultimate showdown came to life just as Reckoning and Orange Crush hoped it would! Reckoning wanted to solidify a Championship with a win over the only team they had yet to knock-off this season, while Orange Crush needed topple Reckoning and win the night to possibly complete a dramatic comeback. #76 Steve Gursky, Jr. escaped the first two turns to take the lead and #74 Steve Vollbrecht blasted #06 Ryan Bleuer in the rear wheel, snapping the axle and put Orange Crush in an immediate disadvantage. #67 Elmer Fandrey was a jack-of-all-trades this season and was poised to take over the run. Last month, Fandrey annhilated #7 Brian Anderson on the front stretch, but this time a little de ja vu and some pay back were in order from #78 Chris McGuire as he delivered a thunderous sidewall shot that left Fandrey's car nearly crippled. #68 Johnny Ryan led the resistance for OC with a head-on to Gursky that knocked him off the run for 2 laps. McGuire and Vollbrecht tired to clean off the OC defenders, but no one was going lightly. The intense battle wore on now with Anderson in the lead. #65 Pete Ryan put a stop to that with a wicked head-on smash in Turn 4. The two Ryan's continued to fend off Reckoning's offense and defense, but the numbers game became too much. Gursky broke free, dodged the block attempts and roared across the finish to clinch the Championship! Numerous instense and see-saw battles throughout the brackets led us to a re-match of the May Finals with Reckoning against a revenge-minded Full Throttle. The purple pulverizers of Team #4 pushed the newly crowned Champions to the absolute limit and had the checkered flag in sight! #45 Jay Van Allen was ONE TURN away from the victory until Anderson spun him sideways and Vollbrecht followed up with the race-changing hit, driving Van Allen straight into the wall. Gursky, Jr. made up the defecit and captured the Round 5 win for Reckoning! A fantastic, memorable, hard-hitting, dramatic and undoubtedly destructive 2011 Tournament of Destruction has reached the finished line and the waiting game begins as the months tick away until 2012. First, all the teams, crews, friends and family have earned much-needed break from the whirlwind life that is Team Demolition Derby. We'll have more updates from Round 5all this week week and throughout the remaining calendar year. Congratulations again to Reckoning and to every team for an amazing year we will not soon, make that ever, forget! Huge Thank you to our dedicated fans for jamming Route 66 Raceway all 5 Rounds, including buddling up and braving the cold weather to sell-out Route 66 Raceway for the final night!
